How To Be A High Energy Person
1: Prioritise Quality Sleep
This is a crucial starting point for how to be a high energy person. Quality sleep is the cornerstone of high energy levels. It’s not just about the hours you spend in bed; it’s about the quality of rest you get.
Establish a consistent sleep pattern by going to bed and waking up at the same times each day, even on weekends. Create a calming wind-down bedtime routine, such as reading a book, taking a warm bath with your favourite soothing aromatherapy bath oil, or practicing relaxation exercises.
Keep your bedroom conducive to sleep – a dark, quiet, and cool environment can improve sleep quality. Avoid the temptation of looking at any technology related screens before bedtime, as the blue light emitted can disrupt your body’s production of melatonin, a sleep-inducing hormone.
Invest in a comfortable and body-supportive mattress and pillows to ensure optimal comfort.

2: Stay Hydrated
Water is essential for various bodily functions, including maintaining energy levels. Dehydration can lead to fatigue, headaches, and diminished focus.
Aim to carry a reusable bottle of water with you throughout the day as a reminder to stay hydrated at all times. If you find the concept of drinking plain water rather uninteresting you are not alone!
I personally like to add slices of lemon, lime or cucumber to my bottled water as this not only adds natural flavour but it boosts the nutritional value of the water as well.
Aim to drink water consistently rather than trying to gulp down large amounts at once. You can also consider incorporating more hydrating foods like fruits and vegetables into your diet. Herbal teas and infused water can add interest and variety to your hydration routine.
3: Eat Nutrient-Rich Foods
Your energy levels are closely tied to the foods you consume. When looking into how to be a high energy person, a diet that is well-balanced and includes an array of nutrient-rich foods can be a great starting point to consider.
Using well-established worldwide resources such as livestrong.com and draxe.com will help give you some fantastic inspiration when looking for nutritional food ideas that can provide sustained energy and keep you feeling fuller for longer.
Don’t forget to incorporate a rainbow of fruits and vegetables, which provide vital vitamins and minerals that contribute to overall well-being.

4: Regular Exercise
Exercise might seem counterintuitive when you’re low on energy, but it’s a proven energy booster.
Taking part in regular physical activity increases blood flow, which helps with delivering more oxygen and nutrients to your cells and tissues. This leads to improved energy production and overall vitality.
Find an exercise routine you enjoy such as brisk walking, cycling, dancing, yoga or swimming perhaps. Start with manageable goals and gradually increase the intensity and duration as your fitness improves.
If you find an exercise you enjoy, you are much more likely to be consistent and stick with it over the long term.
5: Practice Stress Management
Chronic stress can drain your energy reserves. Engage in stress-reducing practices like deep breathing, meditation, and progressive muscle relaxation.
These techniques activate the body’s relaxation response, helping to promote a sense of calm and also lower cortisol levels.
Yoga can be another excellent way to manage stress while simultaneously improving flexibility and strength. Spending time in nature – whether it’s a walk in the park or a hike – can also provide a mental and emotional reset.
The number 1 app for sleep, meditation and relaxation is Calm. This can be a great tool to help with proactively managing stress and I have used this app for a few years now and find it extremely beneficial.

6: Break up Your Day
Sitting for extended periods can lead to feelings of sluggishness. Incorporate short breaks throughout your day to stand up, stretch, and move around.
The 50/10 rule involves working for 50 minutes and then taking a 10-minute break to rest your eyes, stretch your muscles, and refresh your mind.
Consider activities like walking around your workspace, doing quick desk exercises, or practicing a few minutes of deep breathing during your breaks.
A few steps that I have taken to energise and enhance my work from home office is to encorporate the use of an electrically adjustable standing desk, such as the Herman Miller Jarvis Bamboo Desk.
I connect my Apple Macbook Pro laptop into a large desk monitor as this gives me a much larger and more comfortable viewing screen size when working on computer related tasks for longer periods of time.
I add an LED light bar such as the BenQ Screenbar Halo to the top of my desk screen which helps to significantly reduce glare and eye strain as well as providing ambient background desk lighting. This allows me to work more comfortably for longer periods without any loss in my energy levels.
7: Cultivate Positive Relationships
The company you keep can significantly impact your energy levels. Surround yourself with individuals who uplift, motivate, and support you.
Positive relationships provide emotional nourishment and can boost your overall sense of well-being.
Engage in meaningful conversations, spend quality time with special friends and loved ones, and nurture connections that make you feel valued and understood.

8: Set Meaningful Goals
Having clear goals gives your life purpose and direction. Aim to break down larger goals into smaller, achievable steps.
Celebrate your successes, no matter how minor they seem and reward yourself in whatever way is meaningful and appropriate for you. This sense of accomplishment can fuel your motivation and energy levels.
Regularly adjust and review your goals to align with your evolving aspirations. The act of pursuing your dreams can bring a sense of excitement and determination.
9: Practice Mindfulness
Mindfulness involves the practice of staying present in the moment without judgment. This practice can help prevent your mind from wandering into draining thoughts about the past or future. Mindfulness techniques include deep breathing, body scans, and mindful eating.
Incorporate mindfulness into your daily routine – whether it’s a few minutes of meditation in the morning, mindful breathing during breaks, or simply savoring each bite of your meals.
I like the Headspace App as it has some fantastic mindfulness tools that helps you create positive life-enhancing daily habits to support your mental health and happiness.
10: Stay Curious and Learn
Engaging your mind with new experiences keeps your energy levels high.
Read books, explore different topics, and challenge yourself to learn new skills. Engaging in intellectual activities stimulates your brain and prevents monotony.
Whether picking up a musical instrument, learning a new language, or delving into a subject you’ve always been curious about, learning can infuse your life with energy and enthusiasm.

11: Embrace Positivity
A positive attitude can significantly impact your energy levels and overall outlook on life. Practice gratitude by reflecting on the things you’re thankful for.
Challenge negative self-talk and replace it with affirmations that uplift and empower you.
Surround yourself with positive media, books, and experiences. Engaging with positivity can create a virtuous cycle that boosts your mood and energy.

Separate to the main points I have outlined in this post, I have a couple of other beneficial strategies that I like to deploy to help ensure my energy levels are high literally on demand! I call them the “2 M’s” (music & movement).
Before I start my working day I like to get myself into a high energy peak state. I do these 2 simple things:

I find this strategy to be useful before any important business meeting, whether on Zoom or in person. I play music for how I want to feel – If I want to feel high energy (and I do!) then that is the type of music I play! I play songs that force me to think about moving because that movement creates momentum and that momentum ignites a spark of energy.
I’m sure you can think of songs that if they were played, you would naturally start moving to bob your head or tapping your feet! - Movement – following on from music, moving your body in a way that feels good for you can help with increasing your energy. Whether that’s standing up if you’re sitting, jumping for a few seconds, clapping, raising or pumping your arms and hands in the air, up and down for a few repetitions.
